H-1B Skills Training

Supporting workforce training in high-growth industries.

About

H-1B Skills Training

The H-1B Training Grant Program is intended to raise the technical skill levels of unemployed, underemployed, and incumbent American workers so they can obtain or upgrade employment in high-growth industries and occupations. These grants were authorized by the American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998 to provide education, training, and job placement assistance in the industries for which employers are using H-1B visas to hire highly skilled foreign workers. Over time, these education and training programs will help businesses temporarily reduce their use of skilled foreign professionals permitted to work in the U.S. under the H-1B visa program. The grants represent significant investments in information technology, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare sectors. These grants also emphasize accelerating the formation of new high-growth businesses and expanding existing businesses while creating higher-wage jobs.
