Bergen Community College: Success Coaches

About

As the SA TA team has interacted with the fantastic community colleges implementing this grant we’ve observed some unique and effective strategies, processes and practices that we feel could benefit the larger SA community.  To capture and share these emerging practices we have developed a series of spotlights to highlight these emerging practices.

Bergen Community College Success Coaches
BCC is using the Scaling Apprenticeship funding to collaborate with other New Jersey community colleges, businesses, and community-based organizations to develop healthcare apprenticeship programs for in-demand occupations. BCC leaders recognized the need for apprentices to have a single point of contact who could help them navigate all the components of their program. As a result, they hired 15 Success Coaches. The grant team offered each partner college a coach to assist the program and increase success and completion rates for apprentices. The coaches follow the students through all phases of the apprenticeship process, from the initial inquiry to post-completion, to ensure that they have what they need to become successful.
